Success

I hope you rejoice as I rejoice over completing the New Testament reading in 90 days. What a great accomplishment! Let’s not stop. In a few weeks we will introduce the “Book of the Month Club.”

The “Book of the Month Club.” will include Old Testament books we will read for a month. The book of Proverbs is a perfect “Book of the Month” selection. With 31 chapters it breaks down to a chapter a day.

Unfortunately, not all Old Testament books outline so easily.

Let me know if you have a suggestion for a “Book of the Month” selection.

”Spring’s A-Bustin’ Out All Over”

After all the ice and snow we’ve had it is good to hear that Spring is on the way, bringing evreything back to life. However, it is even better to know that Jesus’ resurrection has already taken place, bringing life eternal. My good friend, The Rev. Sam Foskey, pastor of University Baptist Church, in Carbondale, IL has waxed eloquent on the subject.

”Spring’s A-Bustin’ Out All Over”,

After all the ice and snow, it seems that everything’s coming back to life. I was walking with Linda, my wife, on Sunday afternoon and she pointed out that crocuses are beginning to bloom. Apparently they are the first flowers of spring. Who knew? What I know about gardening you can put in a thimble, and I want to keep it that way. I mean, if I start learning about it, she may expect me to start helping out in the yard! Besides, our cats attack any live plants that come inside the house, so it’s kind of a moot point.

I guess the crocuses got the memo: Spring’s right around the corner. It begins March 20, to be exact. And Easter Sunday, the bestest sign of new life there ever was, comes just three days later on March 23. Now spring is terrific, if you don’t mind supercell thunderstorms and tornadoes, I guess, but doesn’t Easter just take the cake? Jesus was raised from the dead and because of that, if we believe in him, we get to have new life too.

Yes, as beautiful as spring is when it comes in all its glory, it doesn’t hold a candle to the Resurrection. See, spring comes and goes. After spring, comes a humid summer, an autumn that is far too short, and then the cold and dark and ice of winter. But Resurrection is a different story. The new life that Jesus’ Resurrection brings just goes on and on and on. See, those beautiful crocuses will die after a while. But we who are Christ-followers get to live forever.

Passion Week

As I go though this week I have been trying to spend some time each day
focusing on the events that took place in Jesus life before his crucifixion. Today is Tuesday, and Jesus spent most of the day in the Temple. He was teaching but mostly he answered the challenges of the Pharisees.

I wonder how Jesus felt contending with the religious leaders? I can just see him shaking his head in lament wondering why they were looking for answers to the wrong questions.

How often do we find ourselves seeking answers to the wrong questions?

Jesus calls us to believe in him. John 12:46 states, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” Ask questions, but don’t let your questions keep you from believing in Jesus and remaining in darkness.

St. Patrick’s Day Blessing

As my dad always reminds me, “On St. Partrick’s day there are only two kinds of people; the Irish and those who wish they were Irish.”

May everyone enjoy these two blessings today

“May the roof over our heads never fall in. And may we as friends never fall out.”

“Always remember to forget the things that made you sad. But never forget to remember the things that made you glad. Always remember to forget the friends that proved untrue. But never forget to remember those that have stuck by you. Always remember to forget the troubles that passed away. But never forget to remember the blessings that come each day.”

Are We A Relevant Church?

Good question! Read this article from Mat Tullos. Simply but powerfully stated, imho.

Evangelism Is An Action

International Luncheon

We had a agreat turnout for the International Luncheon at the BCM on Tuesday. We served about 150 all together. The food was plentiful and delicious. The menu included Chicken Tetrazzini, Green Beans, Mixed Salad, Bread, Dessert, and Beverages.

We could not provide this meal without your help. Thank you to all who donated food, money, and a special thank you to all who helped prepare, provided desserts, and served.

The atmosphere was so upbeat and jovial. Truly this was another great opportunity to share the message of God’s love to some folks who desperately needed to see it in action!

Sunday Night Unity Service

What a wonderful evening of good food, fellowship, worship, and praise. With all
the flu going around and the inclement weather I wondered how the attendance
would be affected. We had a tremendous turn out. In fact, we had to set up extra
tables in the Fellowship Hall to get us all seated.

Pastor Sam brought a timely and stirring message on unity. And, the Korean
Vision Church praise team led us in worship through music. We were also
privileged to have Rock Hill Baptist Church join with us for the first time.

In all five congregations were represented; First Baptist Church, University
Baptist Church, Rock Hill Baptist Church, Korean Vision Church, and Walnut
Street Baptist church.

The date for our next unity service has not been set. However it will be some
time this Spring!
