Okay, here is the riddle: What do the New England Patriots, a new Hard Drive, and the statement "The best is the enemy of the good," have in common?
Well, let’s take a look at them individually. The New England Patriots’ season ended unceremoniously with 18 wins and 1 loss. The New York Giants record was 13-6 . Both teams were good but which one was the best. The Giants won the Super Bowl that makes them the best. Well, the Patriots won more games and set more NFL records. So that should make them the best. And, I should be happy. The argument could go on forever.
Now, how about a new hard drive for my computer. There are a lot of good deals out there but which one is the best? If I buy a 500 GB hard drive (THAT’S BIG!) now for $135 I might miss a better deal a few weeks from now. If I wait for the best hard drive I might never purchase one!
In our quest for perfection (the best) we often bypass and fail to embrace or even appreciate the good. As a result many of the good things we are able to contribute in the lives of our friends and family, and for the Lord go undone, leaving us dissatisfied, and disappointed. Perhaps the greatest tragedy of failing to embrace and appreciate the good is the present lack of joy in our life.
I don’t care what you say, the Patriots are a really good team. As far as the hard drive goes, it is all a matter of perspective. In 1956 a 5 megabyte hard drive (that’s small) cost $10,000.
Don’t let the perfect ruin the good for you!
